Today, I’d like to share with you a recent interview I had with Morgana when I got to ask her some questions on attracting high-end clients plus other tips for coaches. I hope you enjoy it.

Eric Van Der Hope: Could you provide us with an explanation as to what financial alchemy basics are?

Morgana Rae: My definition of Alchemy is the transmutation of leaden human experience into spiritual gold. “Financial Alchemy” also happens to translate into material gold, and people making lots of money.

When I first did this twenty years ago, there was nothing out there that was anything like my process. I really learned by testing it on thousands of clients over the last couple of decades, learning from experience what makes it work, and what makes it not work.

So the first distinction of Financial Alchemy® is that I make money a person. There are a lot of great teachers out there who talk about “relationship with money” but they’re talking about a relationship with an abstract concept like “energy” or “an exchange of value”. Deepak Chopra calls money a “divine field of abundance.” All of that may be true, but I don’t know how to have a relationship with a divine field of abundance! I know how to have a relationship with a person.

It wasn’t until I imagined who my money was that all of my financial struggles made perfect sense. My original money person was so terrifying to me that I saw immediately why I couldn’t have it in my life.

Here’s the big secret: if you are having trouble with money, it’s not an accident. If you are not making enough, or you are losing what you get, or it’s causing fights; then you are in a relationship with a Money Monster. This monster stands in the way of what you want to have, what you want to do in life, and who you want to be. We must get rid of the monster.

And only when the monster is gone can you have a new relationship with money–also as a person. This new relationship is the very opposite of your monster. Someone you can love and trust. Who loves you and guides you to your highest good. Someone you WANT in your life!

It’s just too hard to stay committed and devoted to a relationship with an idea. We make money a person instead of an idea so that the relationship will stick.

Eric Van Der Hope: There are many roadblocks on the way – on the journey of writing, authoring and publishing books. How do you get rid of these obstacles?

Morgana Rae: Well, first of all, there are inner and outer obstacles. I guarantee you that you will encounter both! What helps me with the inner obstacle is having a really big juicy WHY for getting the book done.

My first book and info products had been percolating in my mind for years, and I still wasn’t doing anything with them… until a giant speaking engagement dropped in my lap, and my reaction was, “Hooray! Oh, SH*%!” Because I didn’t have anything to sell except for coaching, and I knew I needed something to offer besides my time. I only had weeks to put together my first book that I had been taking notes on and writing for years and years. I came out with the first draft, which was full of flaws and not perfect, and people loved it anyway. Then I just kept making it better and making it better over the years, and selling it and honing it. Finally it became finished enough that agents and publishers became interested. I published it on Amazon in 2013, and it became a best seller in 7 countries, not all English speaking. Ten years later, here I am again. What was good enough in 2013 is out of date in 2023. I am vastly better at coaching clients into far bigger breakthroughs. Many more millionaires over the last decade. Time to make the book better, so here we are!

And, you know what? Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong! Set up delays. Crazy formatting challenges. The people I wanted to hire are no longer around. It’s endless. And that’s life! How do you overcome obstacles? Stop being afraid of obstacles. Have your tantrum for 30 seconds, and then find the opportunity. Something wonderful wants to happen.

That is really the secret of my success: turning lead, the things that you don’t want to happen, into gold; and making everything better because of the challenge, the mistake, the “whatever” that happened.

Eric Van Der Hope: How to Set Fees?

Morgana Rae: Fun! This is one of my favorite topics. The first step is to stop making money the enemy.

I know that sounds weird, because people don’t consciously think that money is an enemy. But every single time in your life you’ve said, “I can’t afford it,” or somebody told you that they couldn’t afford to give it to you, or there wasn’t enough money, money became the bad guy. Money became the scapegoat, the monster, and the obstacle between you and what you wanted; whether it was what you wanted to have, or what you wanted to do, or who you wanted to be. All the times you did things you didn’t want to do, to make money, money was the bad guy. Like a slave driver. So first you have to change your relationship with money.

This is the focus of the first part of my “Financial Alchemy” book. When you get rid of the monster, there are great things that you can do with your new relationship with money.

When I want to set my fee, I ask my new, personified Money “Honey” what I should charge. I have found that MORE people want me, and MORE people come up with my higher fees than when I was charging less. And the wild thing is I can NEVER predict who will hire me based on their current circumstances, and I never pressure anyone into saying “yes.”

For this to work, your fee has to feel fair and congruent to you. Higher fees happen naturally when you get a healthier relationship with money, and when you get more confidence in yourself and the value you bring. You get really clear on the benefits that you give to others. Your feeling of what is fair gets bigger and bigger and bigger.

Charging too little starts to feel bad physically. It starts to hurt. It feels like you’re betraying yourself. In fact my clients tell me they feel like they’re lying when they charge too little. It becomes too difficult and too painful to undersell themselves.

Years ago a favorite client named Athena Burke gradually raised her rates from $125 an hour to $10,000 a month over the course of just 5 months, because her new relationship with money kept nudging her to set a higher price point. Every month she’d ask her “Money Honey” what he wanted her to do, and she’d follow his instructions and raise her fee again. It was scary, but she did it! And she had a waiting list of people wanting to work with her at the higher fees.
